Cal Expo/Ovations fundraising is an opportunity for parents and students to raise funds for their particular sports team or club by working shifts for Ovations, which is the company that runs the concession booths at various Cal Expo events. Events are available throughout the year. Only groups with a Del Oro High School acccount are permitted to work at these events through the DO Parent's Club. Our current Cal Expo/Ovations Coordinator is Jeannette Wilson. Jeannette's email address is

In 2008, over $25,000 was raised through Cal Expo/Ovations fundraising. Venues and opportunities vary greatly. An event is staffed by 4-14 volunteers. A group will earn 5.7% of total alcohol sales (after tax) and/or 11.4% of total food sales (after tax) at a given event. Please note that this is the amount earned after a small percentage (0.3% of alcohol sales and 0.6% of food sales) goes to the DOPC to cover insurance and management costs of the program. The average amount earned for a group is around $1000 per event. Any tips collected are distributed per your group leader's instructions. Groups have significantly increased (e.g., doubled) the money they earn when the tips are added to it. For those working at Cal Expo/Ovations events, it is mandatory to review and know the following list of rules/training tips. Also important to remember for those working as event volunteers, that this is a JOB and volunteers need to think of it as going to work. You must not drink any alcohol at these events if you are working. It's also critical to remember that the inventory of cups is how your group is paid, so you must not trash or give cups away. For attire, volunteers must wear a white shirt with black or khaki pants, skirt, shorts, etc. Note within the training tips that the parking instructions may vary depending on the event. Sometimes parking or other instructions may change on short notice which is out of the DOPC's control. Also, please be aware that a shift's final closing time may also vary depending on the event and security management.
